Toto

El hilo de hoy viene a confirmar varios indicios que se muestran de un tiempo a esta parte: estoy muy mayor. De pronto, algo que me parecía apreciable, pero aburrido, técnicamente brillante pero frío, se ha convertido en algo que me gusta. Y, reconozco humildemente, que bastante.
Creo que me ha cambiado el gusto. Empiezo a valorar lo técnicamente bueno y bien realizado por encima de la originalidad y el riesgo. Me he hecho muy conservador (más si cabe). Ultraconservador, diría yo :)
En fin, basta de lloriqueos. Al grano.
Estoy de vacaciones y he tenido la oportunidad de escuchar más música que de costumbre. Y se me ha dado por Toto (Totó, como dice, malévolamente, zoloft). Lo siento, me encanta. Supongo que será una fiebre pasajera, pero aparte de las composiciones clásicas y archiconocidas ("Hold The Line", "Rosanna" o "Africa"), me he enganchado con muchísimas más: "Lovers In The Night", "Mushanga", "We Made It", "Georgu Porgy", "Stop Loving You", "Stay Away", "The Road Goes On" y un larguísimo etcétera.
Para el que no los conozca, Toto es una banda norteamericana que lleva desde finales de los 70 hasta la actualidad (su último trabajo es de 2007), con su período de esplendor en los primeros 80. Aunque la banda no está oficialmente disuelta, en la práctica se podría decir que sí con el abandono en 2008 de Steve Lukather.
Por ella han pasado o permanecen músicos excepcionales como el mencionad Steve Lukather, maravilloso guitarrista, Bobby Kimball, vocalista al que los excesos se ensañaron con su voz, Jeff Porcaro, uno de los mejores baterías que han existido, David Paich, teclista, Steve Porcaro, teclista, Greg Philinganes (que sustituyó a Paich a mediados de los 2000), Michael Porcaro, bajista, David Hungate, bajista original de la banda, etc.
Todos estos músicos han tenido una trayectoria extensísima colaborando con gente como: Steely Dan, David Gilmour, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Al Jarreau, Dire Straits, Dr. John, Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Robben Ford, Paul Simon, Bette Middler, Jackson Browne, Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin, The Who, Peter Gabriel o Mick Jagger.
